Akari is a traditional type of Japanese shoji screen. These screens are made of washi paper and bamboo, and have a pattern that looks a lot like this cowl.

This slip stitch striped cowl pattern was designed for the 2015 Puget Sound LYS Tour, its 10th Anniversary. The pattern was distributed at Bad Woman Yarn in Seattle, WA during the tour.
