Akka is the perfect light garment for those late summer evenings when you need something airy and lightweight to throw on so you can stay outside just a little bit longer. It is a hybrid between a shawl, a poncho and a sweater, but because it is sewn up to get sleeves, it is worn as a sweater.

The fairly simple lace creates a diamond pattern which resembles the common weaving pattern “gåsöga” (goose eye), popular in the Nordic weaving tradition.

The Akka sweater is adapted for 2-ply yarn from Ullcentrum, a light sport weight yarn with a natural heathered colour made from old rustic Swedish sheep breeds.

One size fits most. Approximately 150 cm across after blocking.

Ullcentrum 2-ply, 3 skeins (300 m per ~100 g skein), shown in Grass green on light grey. Note: A different yarn may need more. Yarn can be ordered on Ullcentrum.com.

4 mm/US6/UK8, 120 cm/47” circular needle. 6 stitch markers.

Approximately 15 sts/10 cm over lace after blocking.

Approximately 900 m/547 yds. Sample shawl used ~278 g = 835 m.

Stretch and measure your work after 6 repeats of chart A. If your work is already more than 40 cm, go directly to chart B.
