This acorn amigurumi crochet pattern is perfect as a little fall companion. Alan the Acorn is full of autumn charm!

This is an intermediate-level pattern made using light worsted/DK weight yarn. While all the details are listed below, here’s a quick overview: this acorn amigurumi involves one minor colour change, working in the round (sometimes continuous, sometimes chaining and turning your work), and a puff stitch. If you’re comfortable with crocheting in the round as well as chaining and turning your work, even confident beginners can make this cutie.

Minimal sewing is also a bonus! With only 5 pieces to crochet, as the acorn step, top and bottom is made in one go. You’ll then need to crochet two arms and two legs, sew these on, and you’re done!

The pattern is free to view on my blog here, but if you’d prefer a printable, ad-free PDF version, it’s available to purchase in my Ravelry store.

Materials Needed

  • Yarn: DK/Light Worsted Weight yarn. I recommend Rico Design Ricorumi DK 100% Cotton or 100% Cotton Yarn Hello DK Cotton Petite Ball in the following colours: Dark brown (18grams = 45m/49.2yds), and Light brown (25grams = 57.5m/62.9yds).
  • Crochet hook: Crochet hook 2.5mm (or C in US terms is a suitable alternative)
  • Other materials: Stuffing, Needle, Scissors, Pins, Stitch marker, Safety eyes 6mm, Black embroidery thread, Scrap white and pink DK yarn for eye and cheek embroidery details

Acorn Amigurumi Size

Using the yarn and hooks specified in this amigurumi acorn crochet pattern, my creation was 9cm/3.5” wide by 16.5cm/6.5” high.

Gauge

Gauge is not required for this pattern, however keep tension consistent throughout. For reference, my gauge was as follows:

7 sc stitches on 2.5cm / 1”
8 rows on 2.5cm / 1”

Additional Information

  • Pattern language: English
  • Pattern terms: US terms
  • Stitches used: Magic circle, Chain, Slip Stitch, Single Crochet, Puff stitch with 7-loops, Increases and Decreases
  • Yarn: The yarn choice is completely up to you, and you can change the yarn colours, weight, and material based on your own personal preference. Just be aware that the weight of your yarn may impact the hook size you need to use and the size of your final make.
  • Hook size: I recommend using a smaller hook size than recommended on the yarn label. This will stop the stuffing from appearing through your stitches.
  • Eyes: Please note that safety eyes are a choking hazard and are not suitable for children under 3 years of age. As an alternative, use an embroidered eye.
  • Working in rounds: All parts within this pattern are worked in continuous rounds unless otherwise stated.
  • Stitch marker: Use a stitch marker at the beginning of each round to keep track of the number of stitches.
  • Stuffing: Unless otherwise stated, stuff all amigurumi parts firmly as you crochet.
  • Changing colour: To ensure straight lines, add the new colour in the last yarn over of the stitch before the new colour is needed.
  • Copyright: You are more than welcome to sell your crocheted creations using this pattern on a small scale. However, the pattern itself cannot be reproduced, sold, or redistributed in any way without the designers’ consent.
