Alchemist Slipover puts a new spin on the classic sweater vest. Designed to layer easily over everything from a crisp button-down to a simple tee, it’s the kind of piece that ends up in regular rotation.

The oversized fit, shaped shoulders and armholes, and deep V neckline create a relaxed chic silhouette. Adjustable i-cord tassel closures at each side let you change the fit and add a playful finishing detail. Knit in smooth stockinette with clean finishing, it’s easy, steady knitting that turns into a very wearable garment.

Design Details

Alchemist Slipover is all about shape and layering. The deep V neckline frames whatever you wear underneath, while the armholes are shaped to sit comfortably without bulk.

The side openings close with adjustable i-cord ties, so you can wear it closer to the body or looser and open. The hem dips slightly in the back and the overall look stays relaxed but polished, working just as well over dresses as it does with jeans and a tee.

Pattern Highlights

  • Relaxed layering piece
  • Adjustable side ties for fit and styling
  • Meditative stockinette knitting
  • Video tutorials included for finishing details

Construction Overview

Alchemist Slipover is worked flat and seamlessly.

The back is worked first, then the fronts are picked up at the shoulders and shaped to form the deep V neckline. After the armholes are completed, the body is finished with ribbing and a slightly longer back hem.

I-cord ties are added at each side opening to close the garment and allow adjustable fit.

Yarn Notes

We knit our sample in Yarn Nouveau DK Merino in the shade Dark Forest, a rich tonal green that highlights the clean lines of the slipover.

Any DK yarn with good structure will work well. Tonal and solid colorways show the shaping best, but this is also a great project for a favorite sweater quantity you’ve been saving.
