Neon Nectar is a relaxed drop shoulder sweater designed around texture and color. Slip stitches and stockinette move across the yoke and sleeves, giving the fabric depth and an easy, enjoyable pace on the needles.
It’s especially fun with speckled yarns, the texture breaks up pooling and lets the color shifts do their thing. The long sleeves, deep ribbing, and easy fit make it an everyday sweater you’ll want to live in.
Design Details
The sweater begins at the shoulders with the front and back worked flat to shape the neckline. After joining the shoulders with a three needle bind off, the upper front and back are worked with the slip stitch texture and armscye shaping (arm shaping) for comfort.
The body is then joined and worked in the round and finished with a substantial ribbed hem. Sleeves are picked up from the drop shoulder and worked in the round with matching texture and a gentle slouch. The neckline is picked up last so you can adjust the depth and fit.
Pattern Highlights
- Relaxed drop shoulder fit
- Textured knitting that stays engaging
- Deep ribbing at hem and cuffs
- Extra long sleeves with a bit of slouch
- Ideal for speckled or high contrast yarns
Construction Overview
Neon Nectar is worked seamlessly from the top down. Four shoulder sections are cast on separately and worked flat to shape the neckline, then joined across the neck and front using a three needle bind off.
The front and back are joined to work the body in the round. After the body ribbing is complete, sleeves are picked up and worked in the round. The neckline is picked up and finished last for a customizable fit.
Yarn Notes
Our sample is knit in Squish DK by Spun Right Round (100% superfine superwash merino, 250 yards / 115g). The speckles highlight the slipped stitches beautifully and keep the fabric lively without overwhelming the texture.
You can use solids or tonals as well, but this is a great sweater for yarns you’ve been waiting to use. We do recommend alternating skeins and include a video tutorial showing how.
