This design was inspired by the stunning colors of Unique Sheep’s gradient yarn, which works so well with the shawl’s crescent shape. The rich Treasure Chest colorway reminded me of autumn, with leaves turning every possible hue of yellows and reds. Starting with fall as inspiration, I designed the lace to look like many different autumn leaves fluttering in the wind.

Remarkably, the lace is also reminiscent of growing flowers with tulip-like blossoms along the bottom edge. This makes the shawl perfect for some bright spring and summer colors, and that’s where the second gradient colorway, Enchanted Garden, fits perfectly with its brilliant purples and pinks.

Aliseda is constructed from the top down, starting with the short rows, which give the shawl its graceful crescent shape. The lace of the deep border is created with basic lace stitches, and beads are added throughout for wonderful drape and sparkle (475 6/0 4.00mm glass seed beads).

January 23 - pattern pdf update to correct the number of the top border pattern repeats - it should be 22, not 18 as originally listed.

For a limited time, this shawl pattern is also available as a kit in the two original colorways from EarthFaire.com:

Note about the sample yarns:
The yarn used for the samples is The Unique Sheep Luxe (see Rav links), but instead of the standard 400 yard skeins, the Gradience sets are dyed as a set of 6 skeins with 100 yards each (600 yards total).
