Ardienta is generously sized and shaped into a crescent that easily wraps around your shoulders like a hug. I designed this shawl to look like a bouquet of beautiful flowers for a dear friend.

The vivid colors of this stunning yarn served as inspiration for Ardienta. The brilliant purple and pink hues match the colors of Rosa Ardienta, a gorgeous hybrid tea rose. Starting with the shape of the rose, I designed the lace to look like unfolding blossoms sheltered by stylized leaves.

Ardienta is constructed from the top down, starting with a set of easy stockinette short rows, which give the shawl its graceful crescent shape. The lace of the deep border may look complicated at first; however, it is created only with basic lace stitches and all the wrong side rows are simply purled. Seed beads are added throughout the lace borders for additional drape and a bit of sparkle (627 6/0 4.00 mm seed beads), but the beads are optional and the shawl will look just as great without them.

26 January 2016 - Errors in the Ardienta chart corrected, all other information remains the same - pattern update issued.
