I started this scarf as a travel project that stayed in my little alpaca yarn bag for over a year. It began as a way to practice a new stitch and see how a cake of Lion Brand Mandala Genie yarn would work up. I would grab is when I knew I would be somewhere that I would have a bit of a wait, like the school pick up line or the doctor’s office and I wanted something to fiddle with. The amount of time I actually spent on it would only come up to a few hours if I had focused on it instead of the months it took me to finish it. It’s a great “mindless” pattern since it’s a 1-row repeat if you want a quick make without having to refer back to a pattern over and over again. I made this scarf using a 6mm hook and 1 cake of yarn, including the pompom fringe border used to cap the ends. It’s a fun, textured, gender-neutral design that proves warmth with a lightweight fabric.

Materials Needed
1 cake (590 yards) of Lion Brand Mandala Yarn or a similar 3/DK weight yarn
6mm Crochet Hook
Measuring tape
Scissors
Stitch Markers
Tapestry needle for sewing

Recommended Yarn
I recommend using Lion Brand Mandala for this project and a 6mm hook. This is a DK/3 yarn that is very plush and soft. It comes as a self-striping cake and this project should use 1 cake for a standard adult size scarf, depending on your personal crocheting style and tension. The pictures featured in this pattern are made in the color Genie. If you do not have access to purchase this yarn, any similar weight yarn will work.

Gauge and Sizing
You do not need to meet an exact gauge to make this project. The finished size of this scarf measures approx. 7 inches wide by approx. 63 inches long. Your finished size may vary slightly due to your personal style and tension. To adjust your size, you can adjust your starting chain according to pattern instructions to change the width and add or decrease the number of pattern repeats to adjust the length.
