Almaz Cardigan
Almaz cardigan is knitted top-down in a modified drop shoulder construction, featuring an all-over easy-to-memorize cabled stitch pattern with a V-neck detail. The shoulders are meant to have a gentle drop past the outer point of the shoulder.
Shaping around the shoulders and on the sleeve caps is achieved through German short rows applied in the stitch pattern. Step-by-step instructions for the short row shaping are provided in the pattern. However, some parts of the pattern are charts only, so some familiarity with reading knitting charts is required. Both the sleeve and body length from the underarm to the hem can be adjusted to the knitter’s liking.
Gauge
26 sts x 36 rows = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in in the stitch pattern using 4 mm (US 6) needles after blocking
Sizes
Finished bust circumferences are 95, 104, 113.5, (122.5, 131.5, 141), 150, 159.5, 168.5, (178, 187) cm / 37.5, 41, 44.75, (48.25, 51.75, 55.5), 59, 62.75, 66.25, (70, 73.5) in. The recommended ease is 10-15 cm/4-6 in. Both of my samples are made in Size 4 with approximately 12.5 cm / 5 in ease. A full garment measurements table and a schematic are included in the pattern.
Yarn
The red sample is made with Drops Flora (65% wool, 35% alpaca, fingering weight, 210 m/230 yd per 50 g) held together with deadstock mohair-silk blend yarn (70% mohair, 30% silk, lace weight, 1100 m/1202 yd per 100 g). The green sample is made out of a single strand of deadstock merino yarn (100% merino, DK weight).
The lace weight mohair-silk blend can be replaced with any lace weight yarn with a similar composition (e.g Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair).
The yarn quantities below also include the amount of yarn spent on a 20 cm x 20 cm / 8 in x 8 in sample swatch.
