The vast, vibrant Amazon rainforest is the largest rainforest in the world. It is a happy home for over 4,000 butterfly breeds, that indulge in the bountiful salad bar of flowery and fruity foods. Luckily you don’t have to fly all the way to the Amazon to see your exotic butterflies take shape!

There are three, 10/11 cm large butterflies included in this pattern: the blue morpho, king swallowtail, sunset daggerwing and you’ll find the pattern for the passion flower at the end. Each butterfly is a small project to be done in an evening or so, in scraps of yarn you have lying around!
They were knitted flat (with some intarsia color work) on 1.25 mm double pointed needles in a lace-gauged yarn, but can also be done in a heavier yarn and will then turn out slightly larger. The flower is a little more complex, knitted partially in the round with an i-cord.

The butterflies can be attached to just about anything, as an embellishment. Or, start your own butterfly collection - lepidopterarium with a fancy word – as there are more patterns available!
