I have been asked many times to design hats to match the Animal Scarves I published a few years ago. Sorry it’s taken me so long.

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/animal-keyhole-s...

Included in this pattern are the four main characters: Bear; Cat; Dog and Duck. The hats are designed to include 3 head sizes, the pattern is written for the smallest size, larger sizes are in the brackets (). Please mark the size you are working before starting.

Hats are knitted flat, top down and include the earflaps and muzzles, the ears, eyes and noses are knitted separately and sewn on while the hat is still flat.

Also included is a step-by-step assembly guide. As the hats are put together in a similar way I used the bear to demonstrate and added any differences to the other characters. The muzzle on the dog and cat are worked the same way, but different to the bear for example.

I have used Aran/Worsted Weight yarn; if you wish to use double knit the hats will of course be smaller.

Hat sizes:

Baby (6 inches/16cms Height, 15 inches/38cms Circumference;
Infant 6.5 inches/17cms Height, 17 inches/43cms Circumference;
Child 7 inches/17cms Height, 19.5 inches/48cms Circumference.
