Ankle Strap Socks is a free pattern for toe-up footcovers designed to stay on your feet — a gentle ankle strap holds them in place, while the open instep keeps them light and breezy. Perfect with sandals or on their own in warmer months.

Worked seamlessly from the toe using magic loop (DPN-friendly), with a German-short-row-inspired heel and a U-shaped opening finished with your choice of slip-stitch crochet edging or i-cord.

SIZE
One size: foot length 24 cm / 9.5” (fits 23-25 cm / 9-9.75”). The length is easily adjustable.

YARN
Fingering weight (4-ply) sock yarn, approx. 40-50 g (160-200 m / 175-220 yds) for a pair. Samples knit in Opal, Opal Cotton, Regia Cotton, and hand-dyed yarn — great for using up leftovers!

NEEDLES & NOTIONS
US 1 / 2.25 mm circular needle (80 cm cord for magic loop) or DPNs. US 2.5 / 3.0 mm needles (i-cord option) or US B/1 / 2.25 mm crochet hook (edging option). Stitch markers, tapestry needle.

GAUGE
30-34 sts x 46 rows = 10 cm / 4” in stockinette.

SKILL LEVEL
Intermediate. Techniques used: Turkish cast on (or your favorite toe-up cast on), German short rows, Double Twist Loop cast on, twisted 1x1 rib, Jeny’s surprisingly stretchy bind off. Special techniques are explained with photos.
