This design is part of a collection of designs inspired by Scotland, in collaboration with Gingersnapthat. This pattern uses the iconic Argyle pattern to create a beautiful fabric with the cutest little Scottie dog at the top.

These socks are knit cuff down, increasing sts and changing needle size for the leg and foot to accommodate the less stretchy fabric of stranded knitting. This pattern is written for sock yarn and two different size needles. The cuff, heel and toe are made with the smaller needles. The heel is a German Short Row Heel and the toe is grafted together with Kitchener Stitch.

Approx. circumference in stranded, not stretched, after blocking: 6½ (8, 9¼) inches/16 (20, 23) cm

YARDAGE:

Note: It is difficult to calculate yardage used in colourwork socks, especially with varying foot lengths. Yardages are approximate and calculated for an 8-inch (20 cm) high leg, measured from the bottom of the heel. Changing the length of the leg will change the yardage used.

MC (red): 151 (209, 254) yds/ 138 (191, 232) m
CC1 (black): 124 (171, 208) yds/ 113 (156,190) m
CC2 (white): 25 (35, 42) yds/ 23 (32, 38) m

For cuff, heel, and toe: US1 (2.25mm) dpns or circular needles for preferred method of knitting in the round, or size needed to obtain gauge
For colourwork: US1½ (2.5mm) dpns or circular needles for preferred method of knitting, or size needed to obtain gauge

GAUGE:
Using US1½ (2.5 mm) after blocking, over stranded pattern knit in the round: 36 sts x 40 rounds = 4 inches (10cm)

There are so many possible colour combinations; green and black, purple and green, pink and grey, blue and white. The kerchief around the dog’s neck is duplicate stitched but can be left in the contrast colour.
