Ariel Sweater
Ariel is a striped sweater with a seamless, top-down raglan construction. The coloured stripes can easily be customised, and the pattern includes instructions for creating 3, 4, 5 or 6 colour blocks of equal height.
Ariel has a number of sophisticated details to give it a professional finish, such as a folded collar and short-row neck shaping. These short rows begin at the centre back, and travel row by row along the neck towards the front. The raglan increases are worked simultaneously, to gently shape a rounded neck, comfortable for babies and active children. Sizes 3m, 6m and 12m have buttons on the side to accommodate baby’s head.

Sizing
Ariel sweater is available in sizes 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, 2 years, 4 years and 6 years.
Yarn
This sweater works best in a soft, natural yarn. Depending on your gauge and how dense you want the fabric to be, a fingering, sports or DK weight yarn will work.
Needles
You will need 2 (sets of) needles: a smaller size for the collar and cuffs (suggested size is 2mm/US0) and a larger size for the body (suggested size 3mm/US2.5). If knitting with circulars, you may also want a set of DPNs for the sleeves.
Gauge
Gauge is 28 stitches by 38 rows in 10 x 10 cm (or 4” x 4”). This is in stockinette stitch.
Extras
You will also need a tapestry needle, a row counter, 5 different stitch markers and some waste yarn. Sizes 3-12m also need 2 buttons and a cable needle.
Sample hat
The pink sample was knitted in a (light) DK weight cotton/cashmere yarn from Colourmart. The yellow and grey sample was knitted from 5 strands of lace weight merino (also from Colourmart), together making up a DK weight yarn.
This pattern has been test knitted and professionally tech edited.
