This blanket was designed for my new great-nephew, Arthur, who was born earlier this year. I wanted to use squares of different colours but I didn’t want to end up having to sew them all together. I used two shades of grey and a cream, some squares were knitted in one colour and some in two to create a more interesting pattern when they were lined up.

I am in love with garter stitch, I fnd it really stretchy and with an interesting texture and drape. The mitred squares are made first and then stitches are picked up around the edges in order to knit them together. The outside border is knitted in the round, and the construction means it isn’t a perfect square, but instead has slightly pointed corners.

It is one size and takes approx 650g of DK weight baby yarn.
