Aspen Pom Pom Hat
The Aspen Pom Pom Hat is a simple and quick project that can be worn two ways, as a slouchy hat, or with the brim folded up. It pairs perfectly with any of the patterns from the Aspen Collection. The entire collection is designed for warmth and functionality. Each piece is made up of crochet ribbing stitches to give them a classic and gender neutral look. They all work up quickly, making them great for gifts or for building craft fair inventory. I used some of the same stitches and design elements in the Cypress Collection so that the two collections could be used together to create unique and coordinating sets.

The pattern calls for bulky weight 5 yarn or two
strands of worsted/aran weight 4 yarn. Mine are
made with two strands of Lion Brand Re-Tweed yarn,
which is a heavier weight 4. It is labeled a worsted,
however, it works up more like an aran weight. I
recommend choosing a heavier weight 5 (Lion Brand
Hue + Me works great) or an aran weight yarn. Be
sure to check your gauge to get a good fit.

The Aspen hat is worked flat and then the ends are
slip stitched together. A combination of ribbing
stitches in the hat creates shaping that makes
cinching the top easier and insures a comfy brim.
You will need to know how to work basic stitches into
the back loops of the previous row, and how to find
the back ridges if the foundation chain.

The pattern includes instructions for three sizes;
teen/adult small (head measuring 20”-22”),
adult medium (21”-23”), and adult large (22”-24”). Instructions for different sizes have been color coded throughout the pattern. If a size has specific directions they will be green for size small, red for medium, and blue for large. This includes stitch counts and row numbers.
