The vivid color of Louet Gems truly brings the textures of the pattern to life. The Astoria River is a short river in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada. It is an early tributary of the Athabasca River. The flows of cables in this pattern mixed with the loveliness of the blue remind me of the pretty mountain streams we have here. Therefore, it’s very aptly named.

Worked in the round, Astoria River contains written directions and charts. Astoria River includes a hat worksheet, so you know how to measure your head to achieve a perfect fit.

Astoria River is written to be worked on circular needles. When the crown becomes too small to continue, you’ll switch to the magic loop method. However, the pattern notes do contain details should you wish to use double pointed needles throughout instead.

Curt is seen here wearing the medium size and has a 22” (56 cm) circumference head.
