This little hat echoes one of the eight auspicious symbols in Tibetan Buddhism. I made it for a couple friends of mine who are Tibetan monks, so of course the samples are in reds!

The auspicious knot, also known as the endless knot, symbolizes the essence of LOVE. It represents the intertwining of wisdom and compassion. For me, having Irish blood, I just couldn’t resist the interplay between my own roots and that little knot – so here we have the outcome: a hat that intertwines two cultures and three friends.
A note on construction: I purposely used smaller needles to create a hat that is more windproof. I also noticed that although both yarns are technically the same gauge, that there is a marked difference these days in what manufacturers are calling worsted weight. Keep this in mind when you are casting on and remember, your ribbed band will get the most wear & tear, so a firm but stretchy band is what you are after.
There is only ONE SIZE – feel free to play around with extra or fewer stitches between cables to get your preferred size. My finished sample hat fit anywhere from 19” to 24” head
