Autumn Cushions
When the fall comes, we look for something soft and cozy to lean on as we read a book or watch a favourite movie.
That’s when we are happy to have Autumn Cushions.
They have just enough texture to decorate any room without compromising comfort, and they make a very interesting project to knit.
This pattern gives you two options to choose from. Or, don’t choose and make both cushions for your living room or as a gift for a friend.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
42 x 40 cm / 17 x 16”
YARN
Any wool, wool blend, cotton, or acrylic yarn that has the equivalent of 160 m / 175 yds in 100 g / 3.5 oz. It is consistent with the Aran / Heavy Worsted weight that is marked by the digit “4” or “5” on the yarn label.
You will need approximately 550 m / 600 yds of yarn for one cushion.
To make the cushions featured in the photos, I used Bernat Handicrafter Cotton yarn (100% cotton).
NEEDLES
Single-pointed or circular needles in size 4 mm (US size 6).
NOTIONS
Two pillows in a size 40 x 40 cm / 16 x 16″ or synthetic filling.
Wool needle, cable needle and 4 stitch markers.
GAUGE
15 sts and 21 rows = 4” / 10 cm in stockinette stitch.
NOTES
-
Each cushion is knitted as one piece that is then folded and stitched at the sides. After we put a pillow or filling inside, we close the bottom of the cushion with a whip stitch.
-
Because the cushions are seamed, it is important to add selvedge stitches. To keep the edges neat, add one-stitch selvedges, like Silesian selvedges, or stockinette selvedges.
