Autumn Zoomies
Who doesn’t get a thrill from watching sighthounds running for joy through piles of leaves in autumn! The falling leaves on this sock were inspired by the colours of the Crazy Zauberball yarns. 2545 Early Autumn against the background of the appropriately named 2475 Background Noise , are a stranded colourwork match made in heaven.
I’ve designed this sock to support the charity Greyhound Gap, which aims to plug the gap that Greyhounds and Lurchers so often fall through when their racing/working careers are over. It’s where my previous lurcher Bear and my current Greyhound Paddy, came from ( see my sock pattern Paddy’s Rocky Road).
This pair of socks starts at the cast on for the toe, and has a sole gusset, which gives a stretchy fit, ideal for those with a high instep. After the short row heel turn, there is an integrated heel flap, which means that the heel flap is knitted in as you go, with no awkward picking up of stitches afterwards.
Length of foot is around 9 1/2 inches after blocking, but is quite stretchy. Rows can be added or subtracted at the toe. Also, you could go up or down a needle size.
