Axel is one of my favorite characters in The Growth of the Soil. He is similar to Isak, the main character, but younger with less access to good land and oppourtunity. He is a good and kindhearted man.

The Axel neckwarmer is unadorned enough that most men wont shy away from wearing it while the subtle chevron striping and interesting construction keeps it from being a really boring make. It works up quickly and can be made in any yarn. I imagine it would look incredible with some thick or thin stripes.

I designed the Axel to fit close to the neck to keep out bitter winds. You can adjust the length if you want a looser fit (or a double wrapped look).
