My best friend Kailey and I were talking about mittens the other day. She was lamenting that she had lost one of her favorite mittens, and could never find another pair quite like it. The thing she didn’t like about most other mittens was the long cuff. This took me by surprise as I often see long cuffs on crochet mittens, presumably to keep them on and to keep your wrists warm. However, Kailey made the point that often she has to take a mitten off and hates having to stop and shove the cuff back into her coat sleeve. It’s never quite the same as when you put them on in the first place.

She showed me her perfect mitten. It was so simple! It was made of fleece, but has the same shape as this mitten, and short little cuffs. I set to work and came up with this mitten pattern.

For added wind resistance and perfect fit, feel free to fill your sink with hot soapy water, put your hands in these mittens and “wash” your hands being sure to evenly agitate the mittens. They should start to felt! When they’re perfectly sculpted to your hands, rinse in cold water, squeeze out the water and lay flat to dry.
