Why not place a little baby bacterium next to your sink as a cute reminder to your family that they should wash their hands?

You can knit one up in less than an hour, so you could always make your very own special brood of critters to brighten up your lab. That will get your colleagues talking!

The ButterflyLove pdf Baby Bacteria knitting pattern gives you clear step by step instructions to make your own little collection of bacteria.

This pattern only involves knitting flat and is suitable for a beginner/intermediate knitter. You can also contact me at any point if you need technical advice or have any other queries.

What you will need:

2 knitting needles (US1/2.25mm or as per tension advice)
5g DK yarn per bacterium (e.g. Sirdar Cotton DK 501 ‘Mill White’)
Two black plastic toy safety eyes - 6mm
Oddments of embroidery floss for the pili
Polyfil toy stuffing
1 tapestry needle for finishing
1 embroidery needle for finishing

Skills used: Casting on and off, Increasing and Decreasing

Stitches used: Stocking stitch
