Balmoral
Balmoral is a generously sized wrap, inspired by traditional tartans and tweeds.
Textured slip stitches and alternating colours create an appearance of woven fabric, framed by clean garter stitch borders for a crisp finish.
The wrap is worked bottom-up in two colours of worsted/Aran weight wool. Only one colour is worked per row.
The pattern includes charts, written row-by-row instructions and guidance for clean joins.
Difficulty: Intermediate.
Finished size:
10 pattern repeats = 199 x 50 cm / 78.3 x 19.7 “.
12 pattern repeats (sample shown in photos)= 240 x 50 cm / 94.5 x 19.7”
Techniques: textured slip-stitch pattern, Intarsia joins and garter borders.
Yarn:
Worsted/Aran weight for 10 repeat wrap:
Colour A = 680 m / 744 yd (9 x 50 g balls)
Colour B = 400 m / 437 yd (5 x 50 g balls)
Gauge:
22 stitches and 37 rows = 10 cm / 4”, in pattern, measured after blocking.
The length can be adjusted by changing the number of pattern repeats.
The wrap is finished with garter stitch borders and can be worn without fringe for a clean finish, or with fringe added according to preference.
