The secret to making a neat color change on the rounds is to slip stitch in the chain space, change the color and then chain 1. When you do the chain 2 with the new color, take the strand of the old color and pull it snug. This makes it look like the new color starts at the same place as the rest of the row. Do not cut your thread. You will let the thread hang and pick it up when you come back around. When you are finished, turn your hat and weave in the ends. You can sew on a flower or place a pin on the band for decoration, or leave it plain. This pattern can also be worked in a single color just don’t worry about changing colors.

I made this hat originally in Black and White because my favorite college football team is the Alabama Crimson Tide. If you have a different school, you can make this hat in any color combination you choose. I have made this hat also in solid colors.

I used Red Heart yarn, if you use a different yarn, you may need to adjust your stitches to fit your head. Just add stitches or decrease.

Happy Hooking!!
