Banana Leaf Bandana
Note
Is it a bandana? Is is a scarf? A shawlette? I’m not sure, but it was inspired by the always magnificent banana leaf! Provided banana plants get enough light, they make for incredible indoor allies. Having a collection of several, I knew there was only one leaf that I would want to duplicate. This pattern uses a simple Assigned Pooling
technique and a slightly larger hook than is recommended with the sample colourway, which creates a quick and easy make. Beginner friendly and easy to pick up, this simple pattern is a must have.
While originally created for the Houseplant HortOCCULTure colourway, this pattern would look great with any colourway from Arcane Fibre Works, such as Enchanted Nightshade or Twilights Glow.
Technique
1) Increases are made on each end at the beginning and end of each row before decreases are made in the center of each row. An optional petiole is included and shown in sample.
2) For this pattern, Assigned Pooling occurs by creating a triple crochet behind the post of the stitch directly below from the previous row. The sample shown pools the gold color, which usually allows for 2-3 of these triple crochet stitches. The Leaf Green color usually allows for 5-7 of triple crochet stitches. Due to the nature of the dye, the number of triple crochets in the sequence will likely vary each time you do it.
3) Avoid performing the pooling sequence on the last two stitches of each row and when decreasing.
4) Using the Houseplant HortOCCULTure colourway, the gold color is usually preceded by the Charcoal color.
