Note: This pattern is knit, in part, using stranded garter. This will be a new technique for almost everyone. It is BEST knit using two-handed stranded. The pattern includes detailed instructions on how to knit the technique, but it requires previous knowledge of stranding with two-hands, for example, what is depicted in this video: https://youtu.be/bFA0wFYfvmM

It is possible to knit stranded garter one-handed as depicted in this video: https://youtu.be/28q-R9LhfqE however it requires picking up and dropping yarn strands which most will find frustrating.

The Bargello Shawl is powered by friendship! Bargello is a style of needlepoint embroidery that features bold geometric patterning. The geometric motif is inspired by a bargello design created by my friend Cora and the idea to design this piece came about after I first saw my friend Shobha of Serendipitous Wool Co.’s colorway “Moon Lake”.

The Bargello Shawl is a large asymmetrical shawl. The shawl is first knit using mosaic squares and then transitions to stranded garter (really) to achieve the over-sized geometric effect. The shawl is knit entirely using knit stitch and this pattern is designed to be a low-stress knit. This pattern is perfect for knitters looking to both learn something new but knit-while-distracted (which if you are like me means binging TV).

The motif is both charted and written.
