A mitten especially designed for an exhibition of garments from the book Medieval Inspired Knits in Barkåkra Church in july 2014, from paintings there.

The beautiful arches in Barkåkra church in the province of Skåne, Sweden, gave inspiration to the cable knitted cuff on the mitten Valvbård och hjulmotiv.

Above the cuff, the mitten is adorned with a narrow border in stranded knitting, inspired by a painted border with crosses. This decorative border is found in several places in the church murals, made to enhance the arches.

On top of the mitten there is embroidery depicting one of the many different wheel motifs that have been painted above the arches. The thumb has an embroidered anchor, one of several painted symbols that can be seen in the vaulted ceiling of the church.

Barkåkra Valvbård och hjulmotiv means Border with arches and wheel motif from Barkåkra in Swedish.

The pattern is also available in swedish.
