Basic Botanical Applique
This basic botanical applique pattern is an excellent choice for folks with beginner crochet skills. You can make lovely botanical appliques to stitch or glue to almost any surface, although I design them for use on winter coats. They can go on lampshades, quilts, bags, fabric book covers, drapes… If you’re applying these with glue, make sure to test the yarn with your glue product and application.
There’s nothing more complicated than a Picot-3 stitch in this pattern, so it’s easy and fun once you understand the concept. There are so many wonderful free patterns available for flowers that you could use with this applique as a collage.
I hope it brings you joy!
This can be made in almost any size depending on your purpose. I use sport weight yarn and a 4.0mm - 4.25mm hook for my appliques on coats. This pattern requires about 200 yards of yarn, but it’s a great stash buster. Make the leaves with short pieces in your leftover yarn bag!
