Winter is coming! Take shelter behind the Battlements cowl. Slightly asymmetrical, virtually reversible, and completely cozy, this unisex cowl is knitted flat end-to-end in a simple garter and rib texture combination reminiscent of the notched parapet of a castle wall. But these battlements, made of soft, warm wool instead of cold, hard stone, will protect you from the worst weather.

Knit the shorter, wider version to drape once around your neck, or the longer, narrower version to wrap twice; join the end to the beginning with a seam, a three-needle bind-off, or an invisible graft in pattern (for which step-by-step instructions are provided): the choice is yours. Aran weight yarn makes this a quick knit and extra warm to snuggle around your neck.

The shorter sample of the cowl is shown in Plucky Knitter Traveler Aran (1 skein in Lonesome Highway); the longer sample is shown in Plucky Knitter Primo Aran (2 skeins in Barely Birch). Instructions for this simple textured cowl are given in written form only.
