DESIGN NOTES
This project is inspired by a vintage Bonnie Cashin coat I was given by a friend many years ago. Bonnie Cashin was an American women’s wear designer and considered one of the pioneers of American sportswear. I love the weight of this coat, like the comfort of a heavy blanket. The pop of color at the hem, cuff and collar are a nod to the leather piping and trim found on my Cashin coat. The design, featuring WOOL AND THE GANG’s Heal the Wool upcycled yarn, was completed the week of my birthday and Earth Day, which explains the name. It is worked from the neck down, seamlessly in raglan. The sleeves are picked up and knit and the collar is worked in three rows of I-Cord. The fit is oversized, with kimono-inspired sleeves, easily allowing you to wear layers of clothing underneath.
