When knitting brioche stitch in the round, you will always cast on an even number of stitches. For knitting a flat piece you will always cast on an odd number of stitches. A looser cast-on is ideal. To achieve this, you can use a larger needle for your cast-on row, or you can cast on over 2 needles. Knitting brioche is surprisingly easier if you knit using 2 colours!

Knit using 6 mm (US #10) straight & either 6 mm (US #10) double pointed needles or 6 mm (US #10) circular needles with 2 skeins of a medium weight (#4) wool (appx 137 m per 100 gm/150 yds per 3.5 oz skein). Each colour of skein was divided in half and wound into two separate balls. In both Colour A and Colour B, this pattern was knit using double strands of each individual colour. The pictured cowl was knit with double strands of Fleece and Harmony’s Signature Wool in worsted weight.
