When knitting brioche stitch in the round, you will always cast on an even number of stitches. For knitting a flat piece you will always cast on an odd number of stitches. A looser cast-on is ideal. To achieve this, you can use a larger needle for your cast-on row, or you can cast on over 2 needles. Knitting brioche is surprisingly easier if you knit using 2 colours!

Knit using 6 mm (US #10) straight & either 6 mm (US #10) double pointed needles or 6 mm (US #10) circular needles with 2 skeins of a medium weight (#4) wool (appx 224 m per 110 gm/245 yds per 4 oz skein). Each colour of skein was divided in half and wound into two separate balls. In both Colour A and Colour B, this pattern was knit using double strands of each individual colour.
