I designed Becoming in the year leading up to my 40th birthday. This shawl is a mediation on life and growth and change, as reflected in the life cycle of a flower. It is a contemplation of how each stage in our lives is a celebration of who we have become, yet an acknowledgment that we are always growing, always changing, always becoming.

Your purchase includes two files, one for the shawlette and one for the full size shawl. The motifs are the same in both shawls, with more repeats per section worked in the larger shawl.

Pattern is both fully written and has charts for all lace sections.

Dimensions:
Shawlette: 52 inches wide by 24 inches deep (132 cm wide by 61 cm deep)
Medium shawl: 60 inches wide by 29.5 inches deep (152 cm wide by 75 cm deep)
Large shawl: 76 inches wide by 33 inches deep (193 cm wide by 84 cm deep)

Yarn
Fingering weight yarn

Needles and Tools
US Size 6 (4 mm) needles, or size needed to obtain gauge. Pattern is worked flat, but due to the large number of stitches, you may prefer to use circular needles.
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Six stitch markers, designated A, B, C, D, E, and F; more if desired
Blocking supplies
Kitchen Scale (optional–to determine if you have enough yarn for additional repeats)

Gauge
17 stitches and 30 rnds per 4 inches (10 cm) in eyelet lace on stockinette background, after blocking. Exact gauge is not crucial but changes will affect yarn use and size of finished shawl.
