As a beginner, this was my second project. I couldn’t find an exact pattern for what I wanted to make, so I created this pattern. Originally I wanted it to be solely one color, but since the 851 Straw color was discontinued I decided to make it a color block scarf and added the 828 Feather color at the end.

It ended up working great, as I was able to add in a garter stitch to block the color change out even more! You could easily do this with any Aran weight yarn, not just the Rowan Kid Classic. Making it a color block gives many different options on how to wear it, with the color block in the front, side, or even in the back tucked under the main color (if you want it to look solid).

In the pattern, I very clearly outline for beginners what to look for, and what rows coordinate with which stitch. This double moss stitch has been a challenge for me to “read” as my work comes along, so I had to make it very clear as to which row numbers coordinate with which section, and I used a row counter throughout the project. From start to finish it took me a little less than a month.

PLEASE NOTE: The details in the chart to “knit what you see” or “opposite of what you see” only apply to the staggered K1, P1 (pr P1, K1) double moss stitch pattern, NOT the 4 stitches of K1 at beginning and end of each row (these create the garter stitch border!).
