This design is a DK version of my previously released Beneath the Pines shawl.

As with the previous design, this shawl is knit in a simple but satisfying triangle shape. A pretty pine cone lace stitch is repeated and a clean garter stitch trims the edge.

Finished Measurements:

Overall width is approximately 80” and length from cast on to center point is approximately 38”, making this a very generously sized shawl. Perfect for wrapping up in on cool summer evenings in front of the bonfire.

Techniques used:

  • Knitting a Garter Tab (video link provided)

  • Simple lace stitches, yo’s, k2tog and ssk.

  • Slipping stitches with yarn held to back

  • Reading from a chart.

  • Blocking your finished shawl.

Needles/Notions:

  • Size US #6 (4mm) Circular Needles, at least 40” long for working back and forth.

  • Size US#7 (4.5mm) short needle or DPN for bind off

Yarn:

(Pictured in (3) Skeins of Malabrigo Rastita in “Glimmer”.)
At least 920 yards of DK weight wool. Gauge swatch will require even more yardage. I recommend just casting on and working a full lace repeat, block and measure, then proceed with shawl.

If you would like to make the shawl shorter, it is easily adaptable. Just work less repeats and start garter edge sooner. But don’t forget to work the small stockinette section between the two! :)
