Bengal Stripes Cowl
This is a two-color brioche cowl that has lots of texture and appears to have diagonal stripes; it can be worn several different ways - as Mobius (twisted) or flat and buttoned in several different ways. Buttonholes and buttons are added to opposite ends to make this a very versatile cowl.
Select two contrasting colors - solid or tonal is suggested for the main color (MC, 200 yards) while variegated or tonal would make a great contrasting color (CC, 135 yards). Worsted, DK or Aran weight yarns have all worked with this pattern, so stash dive but be sure to do a gauge swatch! Gauge is important to measure on this cowl as the drape of the fabric affects the way it behaves when wearing.
And be sure to have fun with the buttons; they can be store bought, made with fabric and a button kit or try your hand at Dorset buttons.
This is quick knit and makes for very stylish gifts. Make a few for family and one for yourself! Have a look at the different ways to wear this cowl. Be sure to share yours too!
The pattern has both written and charted directions.
This pattern has been added to my website, PatternDecoder.com. Pattern Decoder makes patterns easier to follow so you can spend more time making! You’ll be able to enter your colors and see only these options in the pattern steps as you track your progress. And ‘At the Same Time’ directions (like the thumb increases) are added exactly where you need them! Be sure to check out the other patterns there as well.
Enjoy your new cowl and share your work on social media using the hash tag #BengalStripesCowl and #PatternDecoder.
