“…by midwinter Gandalf and Bilbo had come all the way back, along both edges of the Forest, to the doors of Beorn’s house, and there for a while they both stayed. Yuletide was warm and merry there, and men came from far and wide to feast at Beorn’s bidding.”
-“The Hobbit” by J. R. R. Tolkien

This heavily cabled shawl-collared cardigan is inspired by wide fireplaces, large mugs of mead, and toast with butter and honey.

The upper and lower body of this cardigan are picked up from the cabled waistband, which is knit first. The sleeves feature a cable that begins with a single point and grows to match the cable used on the waistband.

The cardigan is designed to fit with 2-4” of positive ease. The pattern includes both charted and written instructions for the cable patterns.

The yarn used to knit the sample is a locally produced yarn that is not widely available. It is a rustic, sheepy yarn very similar to Briggs & Little Heritage.
