I’m so excited to share my first knitting pattern! This pattern includes clear written instructions and links to video tutorials to guide you through every step. Most of the design is worked from charts.

The Bestiary Scarf is a knitted, artistic encyclopaedia of Western mythical creatures, created using double knitting. This technique produces fully reversible colourwork without floats, with the colours inverted on each side.

I designed this scarf to be a landscape: sea and land creatures appear at the bottom, with sky creatures above. The dragon is knitted sideways, so it sits upright when worn. The left and right sides align, tying the landscape together as a whole.

This is a piece for knitters who love intricate colourwork and storytelling through design.

I used:

  • approximately 650-700m of fingering weight wool (PRU yarns SOUL fingering) in the colour Tanne
  • approximately 650-700m of fingering weight wool (PRU yarns SOUL fingering) in the colour Savannah
  • 2 pairs of 2.0mm (US size 0) knitting needles
  • tapestry needle
  • scissors
  • tension ring (optional)
