Pattern Description: This is a bottom up, worsted weight ribbed beanie. It is knit in the round until
you get to the intarsia portion, where you knit back and forth creating a loop at the end of each row
that will be purled together with the last stitch of the next row. After the intarsia you return to
working in the round, and then divide into 6 parts for the decrease.

Yarn notes:
50 grams/231 yards of fingering weight navy blue tweed (I used 32 grams)
Less than a gram each of Red and White tweed fingering weight yarn.

Tools Needed:
Double pointed or circular US size 3 needles, or correct needles for desired gauge, stitch markers, and
darning needle.

Gauge:
Using a US size 3 needles and fingering weight yarn:
Ribbing(Knit flat): Stretched is 6 st per inch, unstretched is 10 st per inch. 8 rows per inch.
Stockinette (Knit flat): 7 st per inch, 9 rows per inch.
(I find that my gauge for ribbing in the round is slightly smaller.)

Finished Measurement of Hat:
Height: 7 1/2 in. (19 cm)
Minimum Diameter: 17 in. (43 cm.)
Maximum Diameter: 26 in. (66 cm.)
In this gauge the flag is 5 ¾ inches wide (14 ½ cm) and 2 5/8th inch tall (6 ½ cm).
Size can be adjusted with a different weight of yarn, and by changing how many rows of ribbing in
between the intarsia pattern and the decrease. PLEASE note that using larger weight yarn will change
the size of the flag, and affect the look of the hat.
