Description:

This is an overlay mosaic crochet pattern. It shows a line of birthday cake candles, a slice of layered cake with sprinkles on top, and a line of smaller cupcakes.

Each row is worked in one colour. At the end of each row the yarn is cut, and the next row is worked on the front side of the work again with the other colour. This pattern does not include any slanted or angled stitches, just standard stitches.

• written instructions (both UK and US terms)
• large chart to view on screen (or use with apps like Knit Companion)
• smaller charts, split out to A4 size for easier printing

Charts and written patterns are included for both right-handed and left-handed use.

Size:
This item is 185 stitches wide and has 243 rows.
In DK yarn it will be about 97cm wide and 133cm long (about 38” wide and 52” long). If you choose to add a border, this will make it a bit bigger. The size will be affected by yarn type, yarn brand, hook size and tension.

Yarn:
You can use any yarn and hook size you like for this pattern, just be aware that the resulting size may be different, and it may use a different amount of yarn.

Hook: 4.0 mm
7 x 100g balls of Colour A (White)
2 x 100g balls of Colour B (Violet)
1 x 100g ball of Colour C (Boysenberry) - uses about 63g, about 185m (202 yards)
2 x 100g balls of Colour D (Spice)
1 x 100g ball of Colour E (Turquoise) - uses about 75g, about 220m (241 yards)
1 x 100g ball of Colour F (Grass green) - uses about 44g, about 130m (142 yards)
1 x 100g ball of Colour G (Dandelion) - uses about 44g, about 131m (143 yards)
1 x 100g ball of Colour H (Pomegranate) - uses about 76g, about 223m (244 yards)

This pattern does not include a border. You have the option of leaving the ends as a fringe, sewing them in, or adding an envelope border if you prefer.
