Inspired by the designer’s past job as an arborist, the Blazing Leaves Mitts represent letting go and moving on. The colorwork-leaves charts are worked in a contrast- ing color, as is the seed stitch along the cuffs, tops, and thumbs of these fingerless mitts. These mitts are worked in the round from the bottom up.

Finished Size 5½ (6½, 7¼)“ hand circumference and 9½” long. Mitts shown measure 5½“.

Yarn Plymouth Yarn Galway Worsted (100% wool; 210 yd / 3½ oz): #765 rustic (orange; A) and #770 saffron heather (yellow; B), 1 ball each.

Needles Size 8 (5 mm): set of double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions Markers (m); removable m; stitch holder; tapestry needle.

Gauge 22 sts and 22 rnds = 4” in charted patt.

Notes

  • These mitts are worked in the round from the bottom up.
  • The charts are worked using the stranded method. Always pick up the background color over the pattern color and pick up the pattern color from under the background color; this will prevent tangling. Keep floats loose. For floats longer than four stitches, tack stranded yarn on wrong side of work.
