The Blinding Sun Washcloth is a quick, satisfying knit that packs visual punch with minimal effort. Its bold, textured design comes to life through a mix of simple techniques that add just the right amount of variety without slowing you down. Whether you’re making it to brighten up your own space or just enjoying the rhythm of the pattern, this project is perfect for when you want something easy, fast, and a little bit striking.
This beginner-friendly pattern is designed with worsted/aran weight yarn and uses 5mm (US 8) knitting needles—but feel free to use any yarn and needles you like! The design is wonderfully simple and easy to adapt as it is just a stitch multiple of 4+3. I have given the instructions to get the exact size as me, but please experiment with different gauges and stitch counts!
You’ll start with a basic cast-on followed by a few rows of garter stitch to create a sturdy foundation. From there, you’ll ease into a soothing, repetitive stitch pattern using just knit and purl stitches. The edge stitches are slipped and knit through the back loop for a crisp, professional-looking edge. This is worked flat, meaning you turn your work after each row.
Once you’ve knit to the desired length, you’ll finish with a few more rows of garter stitch to mirror the beginning, then bind off and—you guessed it—start another! These are fun (and addictive) to make.
The result is a beautifully textured, functional washcloth that looks sophisticated but feels effortless. It’s a perfect project for beginners or anyone looking for a relaxing, satisfying knit. Plus, it’s quick! You can easily finish one in about an hour.
To make things even easier, video tutorials are included for all special techniques, so you’ll feel confident and supported every step of the way.
Please note that in my sample I made my stitches twisted—I’m recovering from being a combination knitter and am still experimenting on the best way for me to make my stitches.
