The Block Stitch Chunky Crochet Hat is a great project for beginners and seasoned crocheters alike. It’s made with warm, dense Aran weight yarn in joined and turned rounds, using simple double and single crochet.

The Block Stitch is a slight twist on the classic granny stitch, so it adds lovely texture while staying easy to master. With seven sizes, there’s one for everyone on your list.

✨ What makes it work

• Brim first. Worked in rows, then joined for the body.
• Alternating colors. Carried up inside the hat for fewer ends to weave in.
• Simple crown. Decreases at the top, then add a pompom if you like.
• Seven sizes. Newborn to Large Adult.
• You’re not on your own. Video tutorial and written pattern included.

✂️ What you’ll need

• Yarn: Muse Aran, WeCrochet (100% superwash merino, 114 yds/100 g) and Muse Aran Bare, WeCrochet (100% superwash merino, 114 yds/100 g)
• Yardage: 80 to 180 yds total, depending on size. Most of it is Color A, with a small amount of Color B.
• Love a swap? Malabrigo Washted · Twill Worsted, WeCrochet
• Hook: G+ (4.5mm) and H (5.0mm), or size to meet gauge
• Tools: Removable Stitch Markers · Yarn Needle · Scissors
