Learning to get creative with the supplies you already own can extend the versatility of your stash and make it easier to take chances with yarn you aren’t sure about buying. If you decide you don’t love the color later, you can always experiment with overdyeing and see if that helps. (You might be surprised what you can do!)

To make this design extra stash friendly, I incorporated two fingering weight minis for the contrast color; so many of us have those minis in our stash and struggle with ideas for how to use them. By putting two different colors together, I was able to create a more unique “field of flowers” look for this project. I went out of my comfort zone for the color pairing, but was very happy with the results. I encourage you to get creative! And if holding two strands together isn’t your thing, one strand of DK or worsted weight yarn works just as well for your contrast color.

CONSTRUCTION

This cowl is knit in the round, with traditional ribbing and floral colorwork details. I enhanced the “floral” vibe by holding two strands of fingering weight yarn together, giving each flower its own unique personality. The opposite edge is also ribbed, creating a classic frame for the project.
