Bold Beauty is a fun and engaging shawlette design created especially for assigned pooling yarn. The pattern showcases my original Bold Beauty Stitch, a textured stitch that appears as the secondary color emerges, creating beautiful raised “spots” that stand out against the main color.

This stitch pattern is simple to memorize yet creates a striking and unique fabric. The shawlette is designed to highlight the magic of hand-dyed assigned pooling yarn, allowing the colors to guide the texture and create a truly one-of-a-kind accessory.

The stitch is worked whenever the secondary color appears, on both the right and wrong sides of the fabric, making the shawlette beautifully reversible. For those who prefer working the texture only on the right side, an additional video tutorial is included showing this alternative method.

For the best effect, use a hand-dyed yarn specifically designed for assigned pooling techniques. The pattern is designed to use one 100 g hank, making it a perfect project for a special skein you have been saving.

Fingering weight assigned pooling yarn
100 g (approximately 420 m / 459 yards)
The sample yarn was hand-dyed specifically for assigned pooling.

Needles & Notions

3 mm (US 2.5) circular needle, 40 in (100 cm)
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge

28 stitches and 32 rows = 4 in (10 cm) in Stockinette Stitch after blocking

Notes

This shawlette can easily be adjusted to make it larger or longer if desired. However, the pattern has been designed specifically to use one 100 g hank of assigned pooling yarn.
Ideally, your secondary color section should be approximately 7 inches long. If your yarn has shorter or longer color sections, no worries! Simply adjust the size of the Bold Beauty Stitch slightly to match your color length and enjoy creating your own unique version.
The stitch pattern is worked on both sides of the fabric in the original design. An additional video is included for those who prefer to work the stitch only on the right side.
