Hi!! Hope everyone is doing well. So, you know those little elastic things that journals and diary have to help the stay closed? And do you ever get annoyed because you never have a place to put your pens and pencils when you are writing in a notebook and you need to leave somewhere? Well, if you do, I have a solution. This design is like those elastic thingies and also has a little pen holder for your pens. There is a wider version and a smaller version, but it doesn’t really matter which one you do because it won’t affect the finished object.

So, this pattern is a bit complicated because there is no exact written chain pattern. This pattern is fully adjustable, and so the diary you are making this for might be slightly smaller than mine, so where I put 67 ch, you might need 60. Also, when you are measuring for the pattern, you can stretch the chains a lot or not at all or somewhere in the middle, so your diary might be the same as mine but you might want to stretch it a ton, where I only did a little, leading to confusion in the pattern. If this doesn’t make sense, it will once you see the pattern. I will try to be as clear as possible but forgive me if I’m not.

I got the pink yarn you see in the photos at a yarn swap, so it didn’t have a label. It is pink sport weight yarn (I think), and seems to have a bit of wool in it. I made a thin version of the band with dk yarn, and it was the same width as the wider version of the band in pink yarn. So, I can’t tell you exactly which yarn I used, but I do know that its sport weight.

You can adjust the pencil holder however you like, I just did a few rows to make sure it fits most pens. For bigger pens it probably won’t fit.

Okay, I think this covers most of the pattern. Please tell me if there is a mistake or something is not clear and I will do my best to help you. Thank you and happy crocheting!

P.S. Please feel free to leave a comment and/or post a picture of your finished piece. Thank you again!
