A Mario-themed hat in three sizes: “little kid”, “big kid/teen” and “adult”. While the original inspiration is a Bowser shell from Mario Kart, this hat would be happily at home in any color theme for anyone who just wants a spiky hat.

The pattern includes rough estimates for how much yarn is needed. The main body of the hat will use most of a skein of Vanna’s choice yarn, and the contrast colors and spikes could be made with stash yarn if you choose.

The spikes are constructed separately from the hat, stuffed with a bit of poly-fill stuffing, and sewn on at the end. The pattern includes instructions for making the spikes in the round or flat, and for placing and sewing the spikes. There is also an option to crochet the spikes if desired.

Techniques involved:
~knit two together decreases
~Icord
~picking up knit stitches
~sewing the spikes to the hat
