The Braided Bandit Cowl replicates the appearance of a triangle shawl with the practicality of a cowl. The pattern is knit top down starting in the round before transitioning to knitting flat. I used the cast off sequence to create a clean, rounded edge in the back, that provides a broader based along the shoulders. Combining the shoulder shaping with the front bib mimics the look and feel of triangle shawl, while minimizing extra bulk, or tied ends around your neck.

Braided Cable accent frames the design along the edging to create a clean, polished edge. While Petal Stitches decorate the main body of the cowl to create a beautifully textured fabric.

The shape of the cowl is created using increase and decrease stitches, all while minimizing the interruption of the Petal Stitch design.

I used large needles with fingering weight yarn purposefully, as this combination creates loose, open stitches that result in a beautifully drapey and flowey fabric. The open gauge also allows a wide variety of yarns to highlight the texture of the stitches, making it a great project for those variegated yarns in your stash that are harder to find a place for.

Direct links to video tutorials are included inside the pattern to support you through the special stitches.
