The Brick and Mortar Pullover is a drop shoulder sweater with options for a cropped or full length fit with multiple sleeve styles and optional body shaping. It utilizes two different yarn weights and slip stitches to create a pattern that looks like stacked bricks.

This pullover is constructed seamlessly from the top down, starting with the back neck and working increases to shape the shoulder and front neck until the neck edge is finished. The front pieces are then connected and shoulder increases continue until the desired shoulder width is achieved. The piece is then separated into front and back sections which are knit to the depth of the armholes before being rejoined to knit the body in the round in one piece, optionally working decreases in the body for the cropped fit. The bottom hem is knit in 1x1 ribbing and finished with a sewn Italian bind off.

Stitches are then picked up around the armholes and the sleeves are knit either straight with decreases just before the cuff to create a puff sleeve, or with decreases to create a tapered sleeve (with a wide or slim fit) before the cuff is knit in 1x1 ribbing. The cuffs are finished with a sewn Italian bind off to match the body hem.

Stitches are picked up around the neck edge and the collar is knit in 1x1 ribbing until twice the desired length of the collar. The collar is then folded in and bound off while securing it to the picked up edge to create a folded collar.

Notes on choosing a size:
This sweater is designed to be worn with 4-8” / 10-20 cm recommended positive ease at the bust. If you are knitting for a body with greater than a 3” / 7.5 cm difference between the full and upper bust measurements or generally prefer a slimmer fitting drop shoulder sweater, sizing down or using the upper bust measurement can help you choose a size that will achieve the desired fit.

Both purple/pink and white/black samples are shown in Size 3 on a 40” / 102 cm full bust, 37” / 94 cm upper bust circumference.
