This pattern set give you the opportunity to practice and perfect your basic brioche knitting techniques both “in the round” and as a flat piece. For the scarf, you will need 2 skeins of wool based on a 4 oz/110 g skein of wool (appx 245 yds/224 m). For the mittens, you will need 2 skeins - I used up about 75% of the main colour and about 25% of the secondary colour. You can order wool through our website under the tab “Wool.

The scarf is knit using 5.5 mm (US #9) circular, double pointed or swing needles. You will need 2 skeins of a medium weight (#4) wool (appx 137 m per 100 g/150 yds per 3.5oz skein). Achieving gauge is not critical when making this scarf – what is important is maintaining your tension. My gauge was approximately 13 stitches and 18 “finished” rows (36 knit rows) for a 10 cm/4” square. The pictured scarf was knit with Sweet Paprika’s Winfield wool - a Dorset-based down wool.

The coordinating mittens are knit using 4.5mm (US #7) straight & double pointed needles with a medium weight (#4) wool (appx 137 m per 100 gm/150 yds per 3.5 oz skein) to achieve a gauge of approximately 18 stitches and 26 rows to a 10 cm/4” square when knit in a stockinette stitch. The mittens pictured were knit with Sweet Paprika’s Winfield wool.
